SM Sumon Rashid, Amtali (Barguna) Correspondent : Every year, mango buds appear with the change of season. The intoxicating scent of these buds spreads everywhere. Mango buds have started to bloom. These buds will spread on trees and will bear mangoes. There are many small and large mango trees in rural Bengal.
However, the yield of mangoes from these buds depends on the weather. If the weather is not favorable, many buds do not survive.

There are many small and large gardens in many places of Atharogachia and Amtali Sadar Union. The mango trees planted by individuals in these gardens are full of buds. Already, buds have started appearing on these trees. Almost all the houses in Amtali Upazila have mango trees. Buds have bloomed on these trees. Every branch of the tree is covered with buds.
Md. Siddiq Molla, a tree owner from Kukua Union in Amtali, said that the mango trees in his house have started to bud about 20/22 days ago. Most of the trees are covered in buds. If there is no rain, the buds of many trees do not survive. Most of these mango trees are of indigenous species, depending on the area.
He said, “Again, as mangoes grow, they catch insects. Many people use a type of spray on the advice of the Agriculture Department. People generally do not use sprays because there are few trees in their homes. Due to the lack of rain, most of them water the trunks of the trees and apply cow dung to increase fertility.”
Amtali Upazila Agriculture Officer Md. Isah said that this year, mango trees in Amtali Upazila have produced good buds. Usually, it rains occasionally during this time. This helps the buds mature. He also said that they have advised tree owners to use sulfur-based fungicide sprays.
