The Department of Environment has fined 12 lakh taka on 6 illegal brick kilns in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar. The fines were imposed on these brick kilns in Hoi Kyung Union of Teknaf Upazila on Tuesday (January 28) afternoon, said Md. Runayet Amin Reza, Assistant Director of the Cox’s Bazar Department of Environment. He said that a mobile court drive was conducted against 06 illegal brick kilns in Teknaf Upazila for violating various sections of the Brick Manufacturing and Kiln Establishment (Control) Act, 2013 (Amended 2019). Abdus Salam, Senior Chemist of the Department of Environment, Cox’s Bazar District Office, and Inspector Musaib Ibne Rahman served as prosecutors in the drive. In the operation, a fine of 2 lakh taka was imposed on each brick kiln, totaling 12 lakh taka in cash, and all the activities of the brick kilns were stopped.
The 6 brick kilns fined were Messrs. ARB Bricks, Messrs. SMB Bricks, Messrs. MKB Bricks, Messrs. AHB Bricks, Messrs. KNB Bricks, and Messrs. MRB Bricks, a total of 12 lakh taka were fined. Officials of the Department of Environment said that such operations against illegal organizations will continue to protect the environment. The operation was conducted under the leadership of Md. Rezwan-ul-Islam, Executive Magistrate of the Monitoring and Enforcement Wing of the Department of Environment, Dhaka Headquarters, in the presence of Zamir Uddin, Deputy Director of the Cox’s Bazar District Office of the Department of Environment, in cooperation with Cox’s Bazar District Police, Teknaf Thana Police, RAB-15, and Fire Service.
