US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose new tariffs and sanctions on Russia if it does not agree to end the war in Ukraine. However, the Kremlin does not see anything new in his threat.
Referring to Russia and the war, Trump said on Wednesday that if we do not reach an agreement soon, new tariffs, taxes and sanctions will be imposed on Russia.
In response, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Trump had imposed sanctions against Russia during his first term as president.
Peskov said, so we do not see anything new in this threat. He also said that all of Trump’s comments are being closely monitored.
Meanwhile, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke by video call a few hours after Donald Trump’s inauguration. At that time, they pledged to further strengthen China-Russia relations.
Putin called Jinping a “dear friend” and said that Russia and China are building a relationship based on friendship, mutual trust and support despite external pressure. Jinping urged Putin to deepen strategic coordination while protecting legitimate interests.
