Many injured in Jamaat-BNP clash in Kushtia

30 people were injured in a clash between BNP and Jamaat over the chairmanship of the school’s managing committee in Mirpur, Kushtia. On Sunday (January 12) afternoon, 30 people from both sides were injured in a clash between Jamaat and BNP over the chairmanship of the managing committee of Burapara-Miton Secondary School in Amla Union of Mirpur Upazila of Kushtia.

The injured in the incident are receiving treatment at Mirpur Upazila Health Complex and District Headquarters. There has been increased tension in the area since the clash. Additional police have been deployed in the area to control the situation. According to local sources, there has been increased tension in the area since the union Jamaat Ameer and the local BNP leader submitted their names to become the chairman of the ad hoc committee of Burapara-Miton Secondary School. In the wake of which, leaders and activists of both sides got involved in a clash this afternoon, in which 30 to 35 people were injured.

However, Jamaat leaders are claiming that when the school submitted his name to become the Ameer President of the Union Jamaat, local BNP leader Nasir Uddin had been exerting a lot of pressure to withdraw his name. In view of which, a meeting was organized by Jamaat on Sunday afternoon to resolve the issue with the local BNP. At that time, a planned attack was carried out on the Jamaat’s resolution meeting led by BNP leader Nasir. At least 40 to 50 leaders and activists of the Jamaat were injured in this.

An injured BNP activist, who did not want to be named, said that there was increased tension in the area over the formation of the managing committee. Jamaat brought people from outside and attacked them. Many of their leaders and activists were injured in this.

In this regard, Mirpur Police Station OC Mominul Islam said, “A clash took place between Jamaat-BNP in Mirpur over the issue of Managing Committee President Hawa, in which several leaders and activists were injured. The situation in the area is currently normal. Additional police have been deployed to avoid any further violence.”
