Md. Nur Islam Noyon:

A written application has been submitted to the Dinajpur District Commissioner and Army Camp on behalf of the local people demanding to free the historic Gaur-e-Shaheed Sena Eidgah ground in Dinajpur district. Known as the largest Eidgah ground in the country, this ground is currently under threat of illegal encroachment. Gaur-e-Shaheed Sena Eidgah ground is a historical landmark of Dinajpur. It is not only a place for religious ceremonies and social gatherings, but also a symbol of the culture and heritage of Dinajpur city. Thousands of people gather at this ground every afternoon. However, its beauty and functionality are being severely damaged due to illegal structures and shops set up at different ends of the ground.

The application mentions that several local clubs and organizations have occupied a large part of the ground in the name of cricket training and surrounded it with bamboo for years. In addition, illegal permanent and temporary infrastructure has been constructed on the field, which has become a major problem for the city residents. Due to this illegal encroachment, the city residents are being deprived of the playground they deserve. Children, adolescents and the elderly are losing the opportunity to play sports, which is very important for their physical and mental development. In addition, many are being hit with balls while entering the field and parked cars are also being vandalized. Pedestrians have to walk around the field, risking their lives.

In this regard, the victim Md. Afzal Hossain said, I was resting in this big field, when the players training next to me intentionally hit the glass of my car with their hard wooden ball, and the glass of the car broke immediately. When I went to protest, they abused me in foul language and said, “I will break the glass of the whole car. Who told you to park your car here? This is our field for playing.” Another victim Md. Chabedul Islam said, they also hit my leg with a similar wooden ball. There is a big stadium in Dinajpur for sports, they train there! Instead of doing so, they are occupying this big field and surrounding it with bamboo, ruining the beauty of this historical field. He requested everyone, including the administration, to vacate the field. In this regard, Dinajpur Deputy Commissioner Md. Rafiqul Islam was contacted several times on his mobile phone to inquire about the complaint, but he could not be reached.
