The Lama Upazila administration has conducted raids on 7 brick kilns in Lambashia Para, Shibatoli Para and Harinkhaiya in Phaitong Union of Lama Upazila of Bandarban for illegal hill cutting. The campaign was led by Upazila Executive Officer Rupayan Deb yesterday. The campaign was carried out by MBM BRICS (Pro: Md. Mohiuddin, Sang: Lambashia Para, Phaitong), MBI BRICS (Pro: Md. Enamul Haque, Sang: Shibatoli Para, Phaitong), UMB BRICS (Pro: Al Mamun, Sang: Shibatoli Para, Phaitong), ABC-4 (Pro: Md. Belal Uddin, Sang: Shibatoli Para, Phaitong), MHB BRICS (Pro: Md. Riyadul Islam, Sang: Fadur Chha, Phaitong), BBM-2 (Pro: Moktar Ahmed, Sang: Shibatoli Para, Phaitong), UBM BRICS (Pro: Md. Oli Ullah, Sang: Harinkhaiya, Phaitong, Lama). According to Sections 5(1) and 5(2) of the Brick Manufacturing and Kiln Establishment (Control) Act, 2013, a fine of Tk 7 lakh was levied on each brick field. The drive was conducted by the upazila administration in collaboration with the Bandarban Environment Department, Lama Forest Division; Lama Fire Service and Civil Defense and Lama Police Station.
All brick kiln owners in the upazila have been warned to refrain from burning bricks illegally, cutting hills and using firewood. Apart from this, Upazila Executive Officer Rupayan Deb said that the drive against illegal brick kilns will continue.
