Fire at the Secretariat: Formation of a 7-member investigation committee

The government has formed a 7-member investigation committee into the fire incident at Building 7 of the Secretariat.

Additional Secretary of the District and Field Administration Division of the Cabinet Division, Mohammad Khaled Rahim, has been made the convener of the committee. A notification was issued by the Cabinet Division on Thursday (December 26) forming the investigation committee.

The committee has been asked to submit a report within the next 7 working days.

The committee includes representatives of the Public Safety Department (not below the rank of Joint Secretary), representatives of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief (not below the rank of Joint Secretary), representatives of the Local Government Department (not below the rank of Joint Secretary), representatives of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, representatives of the Fire Service and Civil Defense Department, and representatives of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works (not below the rank of Joint Secretary).

The committee has been asked to investigate the source and cause of the fire, and whether anyone has personal or professional responsibility behind the fire accident. The investigation committee will also make recommendations to prevent such accidents.

The committee may include one or more members if necessary.
