Amtali (Barguna) Correspondent: Barguna Amtali in husband Emon Sardar inhumanly tortured his wife and killed her by tying her headscarf. Such allegations have been received. The father, journalist Sumon Rashid, has made such allegations. He also alleged that he is killing his daughter and faking it as suicide by hanging her. The murderer, husband Emon Sardar, has fled, leaving his wife’s body in the hospital.
The incident took place on Friday night in the Palli Bidyut area of Amtali Municipality.
It is reported that Emon Sardar, son of Al Amin Sardar of Nachnapara village, secretly married Zubayra Akhter Jannati, daughter of Sumon Rashid, president of Amtoli Journalists Club, a year ago. Her father Sumon Rashid alleged that since the marriage, Emon Sardar has been torturing his wife Jannati on various pretexts including dowry. On Friday afternoon, due to a marital dispute, Emon cut off Jannati’s hair. This led to a fight between the husband and wife. At one stage, Emon Sardar severely beat his wife Jannati. She died from the beating. Thinking that she was dead, Emon tied a veil around his wife’s neck and hung her from the ceiling of the house. Emon staged a suicide and took his wife’s body to the Amtoli Upazila Health Complex. When the doctor at the hospital confirmed Jannati’s death, Emon fled, leaving the body behind. Upon receiving the information, the police recovered the body from the hospital and sent it to Barguna morgue for autopsy. A case of accidental death has been registered at Amtali Police Station in this incident. Her husband, Emon Sardar, lived in a rented house in the Palli Bidyut area of Amtali Municipality. After the autopsy on Saturday afternoon, the police handed over Jannati’s body to the family. Her body was buried in her father’s family graveyard that afternoon.
Some people who did not want to be named said that husband Emon often beat his wife Jannati on various pretexts. On Friday afternoon, Emon cut off his wife Jannati’s hair. Jannati protested. At one stage, husband Emon beat his wife Jannati severely. At one stage, she lost consciousness. Thinking she was dying, she tied a veil around her neck and hung herself, calling it suicide. Later, he himself took his wife’s body to the hospital.
Father Sumon Rashid said, “My daughter Jannati was often tortured by her son-in-law Emon Sardar after she got married. She told me several times on the phone. But I did not take her words into consideration. On Friday afternoon, Emon cut off my daughter’s hair. When my daughter protested, her husband Emon beat her severely on the orders of her in-laws. My daughter lost consciousness. Thinking she was dead, he hanged her and confirmed her murder. I want justice for this incident.”
Husband Emon Sardar denied killing his wife and said, “I cut my wife’s hair due to a marital dispute. She had an argument with me over the incident. At one point, she committed suicide by tying a veil around her neck.”
Dr. Moniruzzaman Khan, medical officer of Amtali Upazila Health Complex, said that Jannati died before being brought to the hospital.
Amtali Police Station OC (Investigation) Md. Amir Hossain Serniabad said, the body has been recovered and sent to Barguna Morgue for autopsy. Legal action will be taken after receiving the complaint. He added that a case of unnatural death has been registered at the police station in this incident.
