72 members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have received medals in recognition of their meritorious work. Home Affairs Advisor Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury presented medals to 33 of them at a ceremony organized to mark BGB Day-2024 on Monday (December 23).
During the BGB Day celebration, it was decided to observe state mourning today (December 23) following the death of A.F. Hasan Arif, Advisor to the Ministry of Land, Civil Aviation and Tourism of the interim government on December 20. As part of the state mourning, the national flag was flown at half-mast in the BGB today and a minute of silence was observed during the BGB Day ceremony.
On the occasion of BGB Day, BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui hoisted the regimental flag at the BGB headquarters at 6 am on Monday and paid tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War by placing a wreath at the Border Glory in Peelkhana at 6:50 am.
On the occasion of the day, a ceremony was organized at the BGB headquarters in Peelkhana at 11 am to present medals in recognition of their meritorious work in the past year and to felicitate the heroic freedom fighters/descendants and their families.
Home Affairs and Agriculture Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury was present as the guest of honor at the ceremony and presented medals to 33 people who had received medals in recognition of their meritorious work in the BGB.
BGB said that this year, 72 BGB members were awarded various medals, including 12 Border Guard Bangladesh Medal (BGBM), 24 President’s Border Guard Medal (PBGM), 12 Border Guard Bangladesh Medal-Service (BGBMS) and 24 President’s Border Guard Medal-Service (PBGMS).
Khoda Baksh Chowdhury, Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor on Home Ministry Affairs, BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, Secretary (Current Charge) of the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Dr. Nasim Ahmed were present at the ceremony.

After the medal distribution, the Home Advisor felicitated the titled freedom fighters of BGB and their families and assured them of providing all-out cooperation by standing by the freedom fighters and their families in the future as well.
On the occasion of BGB Day celebration, apart from the Peelkhana, regimental flag hoisting, special prayers and receptions were organized at all BGB regions, organizations, sectors and unit levels.
