Md. Zillur Rahman Jewel, (Patuakhali):
The much-anticipated Galachipa Bridge in Patuakhali district was submitted to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council during the previous government’s tenure.
An initial ACNE of Tk 521.2599 crore was approved, and the project was named Galachipa Bridge.
The much-anticipated dream of nearly 1.5 million people in three upazilas, the Galachipa Ramnabad Bridge, has been on hold since the project was approved.
The construction of the proposed Galachipa Bridge over the Ramnabad River in Patuakhali will further facilitate uninterrupted and safe road connectivity between Galachipa Upazila and various upazilas of Barisal Divisional Headquarters and Patuakhali District.
Every day, hundreds of goods are transported by ferry across this river to various parts of the country, including the districts, divisions, and the capital Dhaka. More than a hundred vehicles transport the country’s main economic crops of the country’s GDP, including paddy, rice, rabi crops, and watermelon, and transport exports and public transport.
In addition to wasting time crossing by ferry and trawler, various goods transport and passengers heading to divisional cities and the capital are facing various difficulties.
Not only that! Dying patients have to wait for hours at the ferry pier for the only ferry carrying ambulances. Often, due to not getting the right treatment at the right time, the lives of the newborn baby and the mother are almost lost.
The construction of a bridge over the Ramnabad River in Echhra Galachipa Upazila will bring about a fundamental change in the communication system between Rangabali, Dashmina and Galachipa Upazilas and all divisional cities of the country, including the capital Dhaka.
Road communication without ferries will be launched with the entire country. In addition to the suffering of millions of people in this region, precious time and travel will be reduced. At the same time, the southern region will be transformed into a place of immense potential for the country’s economy.
According to information, the construction of the Galachipa Bridge over the Ramnabad River at the 70th kilometer of the Galachipa Upazila and Highway (Z-8806) proposed by the Road Transport and Highways Department is scheduled to be implemented from January 2023 to December 2025 at an estimated cost of Tk 521.2599 crore, but the people of Galachipa-Dasmina and Rangabali Upazilas are spending their days in anxiety as the bridge construction work has not started yet.
Nearly 1.5 million people in Galachipa and neighboring Rangabali and Dashmina upazilas are suffering due to the lack of a bridge.
It is hoped that the Roads and Urban Development (RUD) Department authorities will implement the long-awaited dream of about 1.5 million people of the three upazilas by building a bridge over the Galachipa Ramnabad River. This is the public expectation that the dream of the three upazilas will come true by putting an end to all the water dreams with the good vision of the current government.
