42 injured in dog attack in Amtoli

A total of 43 elderly children and teenagers were injured in the bite of a mad dog in Amtoli upazila of Barguna. Finally, the dog was beaten to death by locals on Friday night.

The incident took place in Wards 2 and 3 of the municipality between 9 am and 12 noon on Friday.

After the news spread, the locals panicked and set up guards in their homes and neighborhoods with sticks.

It is learned that at around 9 am, freedom fighter Advocate MA Quader of Ward 2 of Amtoli Municipality and support staff Masud Rana (45) of the NSS office located on Nannu Molla Road were working.

At that time, a mad dog suddenly came and bit him and ran away. After this, the dog injured Rafin (6), Zahid (15), Tania Begum (11), Abu Raihan (12), Tanzil Ahmed (15), Lal Chan (10), Tamal (24), Apan Hawladar (20), Shakib (14), Shankar (32), Johamni (9), Seema (29), Shafali (50), Nirmal (55), Yamni (11), Nayan (19), Momena (17), Hafsa (32), Ekhlas (13), Abdul Mannan (33), Yamin (14), Bachchu Mia (40), Abdullah (7), Arafat (9), Abdul Malek (75), Hasib (7), Yusuf (24), Sagar (19), Arif (18), Shahabhanu (104), Nirmal (55) of the same ward. Many more whose names are not known were injured.
In addition, SM Suman Rashid, president of Amtali Journalists Club and correspondent of Daily Present Times, and Md. Mia, owner of Atahar Hotel, Mohila College Road, chased them behind Qawmi Madrasa, and both of them escaped the dog’s vicious paws separately.

The child named Rafin said that while playing in the field in front of the house, a dog suddenly came and ran away with 2-3 clothes from behind him.

Rafin’s father Mustafa Matubbar said that after hearing the boy’s screams, he ran and saw him screaming in a bloody state.

His body was shaking with fear. We quickly rescued him and took him to Amtali Hospital. Since there was no vaccine in the hospital or the municipality, we bought it from outside and vaccinated him.

Abdul Malek, a seventy-year-old resident of Ward No. 2 of Amtali Municipality, said that I was returning home along the road to the government high school. Suddenly, a black male dog came and bit me. I was scared and could not escape even by running. Later, I bought the vaccine and took treatment.

After the news of 18 people being injured by mad dogs spread, there was widespread panic in wards one, two and three of Amtali Municipality. And young men with sticks set up guards in the neighborhoods. At this time, they are trying to chase and kill any dog ​​they see.

Amtali Hospital’s emergency department doctor Dr. Moniruzzaman Khan said that 12 people injured by dog ​​bites have been treated at Amtali Hospital. Six more have received treatment at Barguna General Hospital.

Amtali Upazila Executive Officer (Union) and Municipal Administrator Muhammad Ashraful Alam said that after hearing the news of injuries due to mad dog attacks, the concerned branch of the municipality has been instructed to take necessary action in this regard.
