Farmers in the Matrai Biala Bazar and Muslim Ganj Bazar areas of Kalai Upazila of Joypurhat buy improved seed paddy seeds in their fields every year in the hope of higher yields. Due to the mixture of different varieties, three types of pictures have appeared in each paddy field of the same field. And seeing such a picture of the field, the farmers are distraught with the fear of yield failure.
Md. Mazharul Islam Sarkar (Rana), a rice seed dealer at Muslim Ganj Bazar, National Seat, Joypurhat Kalai Upazila, said. The cost will not be paid. I have cut rice twice today and have not received even eight annas of rice. I am very sad. What will happen from here? What will happen? I cannot buy potato seeds. Now I am just disappointed. Now that the company has assured me, they have not come. If the company gives compensation quickly, we will be able to plant potatoes in the field.
Md. Mizanur Rahman, a farmer from Behala Bazar in Kalai Upazila of Joypurhat, said, “I bought paddy seeds from Faruk’s shop in Behala Bazar in our village. I got some rice mixed in the middle of the 17 rice. Some rice is not ripe. In this situation, I told the shopkeeper. My brother said that there is a problem with the National Company. I talked to the company and we will see how much we can help. We have complained to the Agriculture Office and they have wanted to take action. We are helpless farmers and we want proper compensation for the loss we have suffered.
Md. Faruk Hossain, the proprietor of M/s. Jaipur Sits, is a nominated dealer of National Agri Care Company. After the seeds of this paddy from such a reputable company went out, none of us understand at first. Some paddy came out earlier, some paddy came out later. Due to the ultimate, the farmers will be affected. Some fallow will be less. In this context, we have talked to the company’s highest opponent. We have contacted everyone at the field level and have visited them several times. They are seeing in the region that they have given hope that the crop rate will be the best. Here we will see how much they have been affected. Md. Lutfar Rahman, Regional Manager, National Agri Care Company Representative, is coming here. He has visited the field with the farmers. If such a big and reputable company’s seed is like this, where are the affected farmers? I myself am a farmer. This is our situation now. Where will we go?
