Mosiur Rahman Rasel:

Sabina Yasmin Ruby’s untimely death of her husband Moni Kazi 6 months ago after being ill for 6 years has left Sabina Yasmin Ruby feeling untimely. The entire responsibility of the family fell on Ruby’s shoulders. But he did not give up. The family continues despite the hardships. He is teaching three children. He spends sleepless nights with them. He is haunted by the thought of where he will go with his children now that he has no home.

Helpless Ruby lives in the broken house of a cousin in her father’s house in Kathipara village of Magar union of Nalchiti upazila of Jhalkathi district, which is also on the verge of being destroyed by the river.

Sabina Yasmin Ruby cried while talking about the uncertainty of the world. She said crying, because my husband is ill, I had to go for treatment without all the support. He died 6 months ago. At present I have three children. The eldest daughter is an Honors 1st year student of Jhalkathi Government College. Another boy is a ninth standard student of Nalchiti Merchants Secondary School. And the little boy is also studying in school. Their education costs a lot. I can manage my family with what people give me, but I can’t afford my education. The elder girl and the boy are not able to go to school and college due to lack of money. The girl has grown up and needs to be married. So I trust in Allah. I am not receiving any government assistance. If I could get some help it would be very helpful.

Yusuf Howladar, the father of helpless Ruby, said, “My land has been lost in all the rivers. I have a little house to live in. It seems that it will disappear. I run my family by rearing cows and goats.” It is not possible for me to see my daughter’s family. My daughter’s son-in-law is staying in a broken house of a cousin of mine after his death.

Nazrul Islam, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Nalchiti said, I will try to give him government assistance. And if there is quota in social service then allowance will be provided.
