Under the initiative of the district information office, a district-based orientation regarding the provision of HPV vaccine was held in the hall of a hotel in Sylhet under the project titled ‘Awareness Promotion Program for Children, Adolescents and Women Development’. Dr. Maimun Nahar Nasreen, Medical Officer of Civil Surgeon Office and District Education Officer ASM Abdul Wadud were present as resources in the orientation meeting organized by District Information Office on Tuesday, October 22. Mo Salah Uddin, Deputy Director of District Information Office, Motiur Rahman, Secretary of Sylhet Metropolitan of Bangladesh Scouts, and Scouts Teacher of Gotatikar High School, Mo Saddak Hossain also gave speeches. In the meeting, the speakers discussed in detail about the HPV vaccine and its benefits.

Medical Officer Dr. Maimun Nahar Nasreen said in his speech that HPV vaccination is a very good preventive measure to prevent cervical cancer in girls. Realizing this matter, the government has taken the initiative to provide this vaccination to girls studying in class 5 to 9 free of cost on 24 October 2024. Besides, the vaccination will also be given to the girls aged 10 to 14 years outside the educational institutions at the nearest vaccination centers. Emphasizing on the fact that no one should be left out of vaccination, he said that it is very important to take this vaccination at the right time.

District Education Officer ASM Abdul Wadud said in his speech that the campaign is continuing in all educational institutions to get HPV vaccination for teenage students. Applauding the initiative of the District Information Office Sylhet, he said that it is important to encourage everyone to take the free vaccination provided by the government. He expressed hope that such programs will play a strong role in motivating the public.

Salah Uddin said, district information office has started special awareness program on (HPV) (Human Papilloma Virus) vaccine at the initiative of UNICEF. The campaign will provide free HPV vaccine to girls from 5th to 9th grade (10-14 years for those who do not attend school) to prevent cervical cancer. This program will be implemented in schools and vaccination centers. Requesting those who did not come to today’s event to inform about the matter, he said, the information office on HPV vaccine is going to various schools and concerned people with campaign and awareness activities. Mo Salah Uddin requested everyone to play an active role to make this initiative of the government a success.
