The Anti-Discrimination Journalist Movement held a press conference in Rangpur during an exchange of views with journalists by Information Adviser Nahid Islam, demanding trial and punishment of the troublemakers under the law.
The press conference was held at a community center in Rangpur city on Saturday (October 19) at 9 pm. Coordinator Sharifa Begum Shiuli, Shilpi Akhtar, Robin Chowdhury Russell and Atiqur Rahman Atik spoke under the chairmanship of journalist SM Zakir Hussain, coordinator of anti-discrimination journalist movement Rangpur.
The anti-discrimination journalist leaders also strongly demanded to investigate whether the present Fascist Committee, which caused chaos in Press Club Rangpur, had a political umbrella or not in the unexpected incident that occurred during the exchange of information with journalists at Rangpur Circuit House at 3:30 pm on October 12.
They said that Press Club Rangpur’s abuse of power, irregularities of illegal committees, corruption and factionalism in the past 33 years, and anti-discrimination journalists’ movement could not be presented to the advisor, thus creating an undesirable incident. Which is very sad and an expression of fascism.
Meanwhile, the fascist committee held a press conference to cover up their guilt and invited some people to tea, broke the names of 7 organizations and declared 6 journalists as unwarranted.
It has caused strong condemnation and criticism in civil society and social media including 6 organizations.
It is also known that Marina Lovely’s husband Sabbir Hossain ambushed Shahidul Islam, co-coordinator of anti-discrimination journalist movement and representative of Daily Matrubhumi, in front of Press Club Rangpur.
In this regard, Shahidul Islam said, before coming to the press conference, Sabbir Hossain, the husband of Marina Lovely, the general secretary of the Fascist Committee, along with some others, threatened me in front of the press club. And scrambles to get up to the press club. At that time, I left the motorcycle to save my life and ran away with my life. I am demanding the justice of the attackers subject to proper investigation of such activities to the administration of Shahidul Islam.
“There will be no place for discrimination in Abu Sayeed’s Rangpur” immediately in the press conference with the announcement that according to the actual constitution of Press Club Rangpur approved on July 14, 1991 by the Department of Social Services, to provide membership to all media workers working in Rangpur district and to remove discrimination, including the appointment of administrators in Press Club Rangpur, from about 300 shops in Press Club Rangpur. They demanded to spend the income received on the welfare of journalists.
