Entertainment Desk: After the Bangladesh Film Certification Board, the Film Import and Export Committee has been reconstituted. Today (October 2) this information was revealed in a notification of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

The notification said, “Until further instructions, this committee has been reconstituted as per the instructions of 12 members of officials and individuals to give recommendations on import and export of films in accordance with Article 7 of the National Film Policy 2017.”

Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has been convened and members of this committee are the Managing Director of BFDC, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Representative of the Ministry of Commerce, Representative of the Ministry of Industry, Vice Chairman of Bangladesh Film Certification Board, Administrator of Bangladesh Film Producers and Distributors Association, President of Bangladesh Directors Association. , General Secretary of Bangladesh Film Exhibitors Association Awlad Hossain, filmmaker Abid Mallik, film journalist Shibli Ahmed and Deputy Secretary of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Article 7 of the National Film Policy 2017 states that the principle of equality shall be adopted in the case of export of Bangladeshi films and import of foreign films to Bangladesh. The main aim in this regard will be market creation, expansion and promotion of indigenous culture by screening Bangladeshi films abroad. It has also been said that the government’s no-objection should be accepted as per the prevailing laws, rules and orders in the case of Bangladeshi films being exported abroad. In giving this no-objection, the subject of the film proposed for export, judging the technical and aesthetic quality, whether the respective film can uphold the image of Bangladesh abroad and whether it will be helpful in creating or expanding the market for Bangladeshi films abroad, must be considered.

Although in the past years, there was not much news about the import and export of pictures in accordance with the above principles. However, according to the SAFTA agreement, movies were brought from India and played regularly in Bangladesh. However, there have been reports of sending old movies to Bangladesh in exchange for new movies brought from India. It is known that those films were played in some theaters across India. But in most cases Bangladeshi movies were not shown in India.

Before this Bangladesh Film Certification Board has been restructured. On September 22, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued a notification in this regard. It is said that the 15-member film certification board will be chaired by the secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The Vice Chairman of the Bangladesh Film Censor Board was made the Member Secretary of the Board. It further states that the board has been reconstituted as per sub-section (1) of section 3 of the Bangladesh Film Certificate Act, 2023.

Other members of the Board include the Secretary of the Department of Law and Justice; Press Secretary of Chief Adviser, Additional Secretary (Film) of Information and Broadcasting Ministry, Joint Secretary of Public Security Department or higher representative, Managing Director of Bangladesh Film Development Corporation, President of Bangladesh Film Directors Association, Independent University Professor Researcher Dr. Zakir Hossain Raju, film producer and director Rafiqul Anwar Russell, film producer, director, distributor, writer and organizer Zahid Hossain, film editor Iqbal Ehsanul Kabir, film director Khizir Hayat Khan, actress Kazi Nowshaba Ahmed and film director Tasmia Afrin Mau.
