BGB arrested a gold smuggler named Shahidul Islam (52) along with five gold bars in Lalmonirhat.
He was arrested while smuggling gold bars into India through the border area of Gangarhat BOP under Lalmonirhat Battalion 15 BGB on Monday morning, September 30. Detained Shahidul Islam is the son of deceased Safar Uddin of Anantapur village of Phulbari police station in Kurigram district.
According to BGB sources, a man will smuggle gold to India on a motorcycle through Gangarhat BOP area of Kurigram district under Lalmonirhat Battalion 15 BGB. Based on such information, BGB raided the area at 9 am. He was arrested along with five gold bars during the raid. The weight of recovered gold is 566.65 grams (48 bhari 9 annas 2 rati 5 points) with current market value of Tk 66, 77, 403 lakhs.
In this regard, Lalmonirhat 15 BGB acting captain Major Mohammad Asiful Islam Siddiqui told reporters that we are always in a strict position to prevent smuggling at the border.
