Abed Hossain of East Chandpur village of Bajra UP on August 4, 24 afternoon in Sonaimuri, 5 female students who participated in the anti-quota movement in the local Bajra Islamganj market with the intention of diverting the incidents of torture to different sectors and receiving information about the abused female students in the planned press conference. 20-25 terrorists under the leadership of son armed terrorist Shahadat Hossain Jani attempted to abduct journalist Noor Hossain Liton of Daily Matrichaya newspaper and attacked, vandalized and looted his house. The incident took place at the house of Barahinagar Molla of Bajra UP No. 7 of the upazila. Journalist Noor Hossain Liton is in trouble due to the police not arresting those involved in the incident and threatening the defendants despite the case in this regard.
It is known from local and case sources that since last July 24, in the nation-wide anti-quota and discrimination movement, school and college students in different parts of the district accelerated the movement on the ultimatum of the government’s resignation. On August 4, 24, in the afternoon of Noakhali, 5 college students took an autorickshaw from Maijdi after the movement. When local Bajra reached Islamganj market on her way to her home in Sonaimuri Upazila, the local Awami League-Chatra League activists physically tortured and injured the 5 female students participating in the anti-quota-discrimination movement. After the fall of the government on August 5, the Awami mantra and intention to question the quota and anti-discrimination movement at home and abroad, Shahadat Hossain Johnny, the gunman and top terrorist of Bajra area, organized a press conference at his home on August 16 at 24:00 (although the banner read Sonaimuri Press Club). The two students were forced to come to the press conference in exchange of money and under the influence of weapons. The two female students said to have come to the press conference were prevented from speaking. But in the face of journalist Noor Hossain Liton’s various questions, those students revealed the details of the formation that happened on 4th August ’24. Journalist Noor Hossain Liton published the details of the press conference along with the statement of the students and uploaded it on his Facebook page, Shahadat Hossain Johnny also shared it from his Facebook ID. Later, the terrorist Shahadat Hossain Jani called Nur Hossain on his mobile phone in the late night of August 16, threatened to kill him, tried to kidnap him and attacked the house of Nur Hossain Liton with armed terrorists and vandalized and looted. Nur Hossain became the plaintiff in this incident. Shahadat Hossain Johnny (45), 2. Saiful Islam alias Saheed (34), 3. Md. Zahir (32), 4. Md. Javed (35), 5. Apsatnama, including Yusuf Mirza, filed a case CR 21/2024 in Noakhali Court, accusing 15-20 people. The learned court took note of the said complaint of Noor Hossain Liton and ordered OC Sonaimuri to take necessary action by treating it as an FIR. In this context, the case No-2 of Sonaimuri Police Station, Date: 01/09/2024, under section 4/5 of Law and Order Act (Speedy Trial) Act 2002, was registered against the said accused. Even after 17 days of the case, the investigating officer SI (unarmed) Shah Alam (BP No. 7898063993) did not arrest the accused for unknown reasons, the accused are demanding the area. On the other hand, the investigating officer has been harassing the plaintiff journalist Liton in various ways in the name of obtaining testimony. Local Morshed Alam, Shukh Mia (Sumon) and many who did not want to be named said that the terrorists involved in the incident are continuing to threaten journalist Noor Hossain with any false incident including disappearance and murder if the case is not withdrawn. Terrorists are roaming around Dibyi area as they are not arrested. In this regard, journalist Liton submitted a written complaint to Superintendent of Police Noakhali to change the officer investigating the case and take necessary measures.
