Adviser on finance, trade and science and technology will try to overcome the differences between people. Salehuddin Ahmed said, ‘We are not angels either. Let us know our mistakes. We want help.’

He said this at the 24th ICAB National Award ceremony organized by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) at Hotel Sonagaon in the capital on Tuesday (September 10).

Salehuddin Ahmed said, ‘The sky equals discrimination in society. There are many people who cannot eat meat even once a month. Which is sad, but that’s the reality. We will try to overcome this situation.

At this time, the advisor of the interim government presented a real example of how the people of the society are discriminated against. He said, “A few days ago, we asked the peon who used to bring the office lunch to the office, what lunch are you bringing?” He is bringing food in tiffin carrier. I opened it and saw a few pieces of raw banana and a pile of broth. Can you imagine in the modern age…!’

I said that I am in danger if I don’t eat meat, if I don’t eat fish… Sir, I cannot eat meat once a month. This is the majority’, said the finance and trade adviser.

He said, ‘We will try to eliminate discrimination. Sky-high discrimination – this is not acceptable. We are not angels. Let us know our mistakes. We want help.’

In the event, the finance advisor said about the banking sector, ‘Transparency and accountability are the most important at this time. If you don’t keep money accounts properly, you will be caught sooner or later. So you have to be careful from now on.

Salehuddin Ahmed also said, ‘Now we can see the condition of those who did not care about anything in the past. We are looking at almost all the bank reports, the real picture does not emerge there. Therefore, a proper audit is necessary for the suppression of evil and the observance of discipline.

In the event, 22 organizations from 13 sectors including banks, insurance and manufacturing received awards for the best annual report, integrated report and corporate governance. The winning institutions are awarded in three categories namely Gold, Silver and Bronze.

Finance Secretary Md. was also present at the event. Khairuzzaman Majumdar, Commerce Secretary Mohang Salim Uddin, Chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR). Abdur Rahman Khan, ICAB President Mohammad Forkan Uddin and others.
