Adviser on Home Affairs Lt. Gen. Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) has ordered RAB not to be used for political purposes. The advisor gave this order in an exchange meeting with senior RAB officials at the RAB headquarters in the capital’s Uttara this afternoon. The advisor said RAB cannot be used for political purposes. At the time of RAB formation, it was stated that the force would not be used for political purposes. But later it was not accepted. He said, the ingrained idea in the minds of common people is that since RAB started being used for political purposes, RAB started getting involved in various illegal and misdemeanors including disappearances, murders. Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) said that at the beginning of RAB’s formation, it gained the respect, trust and confidence of people as a disciplined and well-organized force. The best officers of the police and armed forces were posted here. As soon as political considerations started recruiting and posting in this force, it began to rot. The adviser also said that through love, practice and performance, RAB’s lost glory and honor can be restored. That is why RAB should work within the law. Illegal orders of superior authorities will not be obeyed. No one shall be detained without authorization and unlawfully. RAB should stay away from crossfire, disappearances, murders. RAB Director General AKM Shahidur Rahman along with officers from various levels of the force participated in the meeting. The advisor was informed about the various activities of RAB in the event. After the exchange meeting, the adviser signed the visit book of RAB and took part in a photo session with the officials.
