Pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi was left out of Pakistan’s squad for the second Test against Bangladesh. The last Test of the series will start tomorrow Friday in Rawalpindi. His name did not appear in Pakistan’s announced 12-man squad for this match.
Spinner Ahmed and left-arm pacer Mir Hamza have been added to this 12-member squad.
Since returning to the field from a knee injury in 2023, Shaheen has not been able to shine with the ball. He has taken only 16 wickets in the last 10 innings. That is why head coach Jason Gillespie sent him to rest for the next match.
Shaheen Afridi got the good news of becoming a father for the first time in his first Test match. That’s why the coach felt it necessary to spend time with family.
“Shahin is working on some things with his bowling,” Gillespie said in the press conference. So that he can be as effective as possible. He plays for Pakistan in all three formats. We want him to spend some time with his family.”
Abrar Ahmed and Mir Hamza have been included in the team for strategic reasons, said the head coach of the Pakistan Test team. Gillespie expects them to do well in Rawalpindi conditions.
Gillespie said, ‘Based on our condition assessment, Abrar Ahmed has been included in the 12-member squad. We haven’t seen the pitch yet. We will assess the condition tomorrow morning.’
Bangladesh defeated Pakistan by 10 wickets in the first Test. This is Bangladesh’s first Test win against Pakistan. Besides, this is the first time in the history of Test cricket that Bangladesh has won by 10 wickets.
