At least 22 people have lost their lives in flash floods caused by monsoonal heavy rains in Thailand. The country’s disaster officials reported this on Monday (August 26). They also said that flooding may spread to more areas this week.

Officials of the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department of the Thai government said in a statement that at least 19 people were injured in the flood and at least 30,000 families were affected by the flood in 13 provinces of the country. Note that this flood has been going on for the past 10 days in the country.

The statement also said that 10 of the victims died due to landslides. Several tourists were among these 10 people. However, the Thai government has not given any information about how many they are. Note that this landslide happened in Thailand’s famous tourist area of Phuket.

At least 31 provinces in the north and northeast of the country may face possible flash floods by next Thursday, according to a statement from the Thai government’s Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department.

The statement also said that the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has directed local authorities to closely monitor the weather. Along with this, the rescue team and equipment have been asked to be ready.

Meanwhile, three workers, including two Chinese nationals and a Myanmar national, went missing on Monday due to a landslide in an under-construction high-speed train tunnel in Pak Chong district of Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.

It should be noted that although Thailand experiences annual monsoon rainfall, extreme weather patterns due to man-made climate change can make devastating floods more dangerous.
