About 5.7 million people have been affected in 11 districts due to ongoing floods in the country. 24 people have died so far. Monday (August 26) Secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief in a press conference on the ongoing flood situation in the Secretariat. Kamrul Hasan informed this information.
The relief secretary said that till now there are 11 flood affected districts. The total number of affected people in 11 districts is 57 lakh 1 thousand 204 people. 12 lakh 38 thousand 48 water-logged families.
Stating that a total of 23 people have died in the flood so far, the disaster secretary said, among them 6 people died in Comilla, one in Feni, 5 in Chittagong, one in Khagrachari, 5 in Noakhali, one in Brahmanbaria, one in Laxmipur and three in Cox’s Bazar.
The secretary also said that two people are missing in Moulvibazar.
Kamrul Hasan also said that 3 thousand 834 shelters have been opened so far. 4 lakh 69 thousand 523 people have taken shelter in these shelters.
No new relief has been allocated for the last two days. He said that the relief allocated earlier is being distributed fairly.
Kamrul Hasan also said that a total of 645 medical teams are in operation to provide medical services to the victims in 11 districts.
According to the information of Comilla GOC, it is known that adequate amount of food items are being distributed by road in all upazilas of Comilla district through Bangladesh Army. 20,000 packets of food items will be distributed on Monday (26 August 24). Out of this, 8 thousand packets will be distributed by helicopter. Besides, 4 medical teams of the army have been deployed in 4 upazilas of Comilla district with necessary medicines.
The disaster management secretary said that the field hospital has been prepared to provide health services in Feni, and the doctors of the army and the district civil surgeon’s office are providing services. Besides, the respective district administrators have given instructions to the local clinics, hospitals and health service institutions to ensure the necessary health care of the flood victims.
The secretary said that as soon as the flood water recedes, outbreaks of water-borne diseases may occur. In that case all concerned should be aware and take necessary steps.
Requesting assistance to the Chief Adviser’s Relief and Welfare Fund, Kamrul Hasan said that those who wish to contribute personally to the Chief Adviser’s Relief Fund (through cheque/pay-order/bank draft) can also pay it to the Adviser of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief on behalf of the Chief Adviser. . This assistance will be taken at the office of the Advisor in the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief from 3 pm to 4 pm every day except government holidays.
