The government fell due to the resignation of Sheikh Hasina from the post of Prime Minister, forced by the popular uprising of the students. Parliament was also dissolved after that. This has opened the way for the formation of an interim government.

Those concerned say that after Sheikh Hasina’s resignation, the process of forming an interim government to run the country has started. It could be in the present day. Discussions have begun on when and how the interim government will be formed. Who is staying in this government? Jurists have given different opinions on this.

But they say, everything will be as desired by those who win the popular uprising. Whatever they wish, there is an opportunity to take it under the law later.

Regarding the process of formation of the interim government, senior Supreme Court lawyer Manzil Morsed told the media, two things need to be seen here. One is the constitution, the other is the popular uprising. Mass uprising is not a law. There is no popular uprising anywhere in the constitution. There is no such thing in the constitution. But those who win the popular uprising will have everything as they wish. Whatever they want, they have the opportunity to go to law. However, it cannot be said that it was done in the manner of a caretaker government. What the victors of the coup d’état can do is to later be re-defined in law. It should be done according to the constitution.

Regarding the process of formation of the interim government, Barrister Kaiser Kamal, another lawyer of the Supreme Court, told the media that the government will be formed after the dissolution of the Parliament. After the fall of Hussain Muhammad Ershad, the then caretaker government was established in 1991 based on the outline of the three alliances. In the same way, an interim government can be formed on the basis of that consensus, as outlined in 1991, through active politicians from all over Bangladesh and representatives of our proud anti-discrimination student society.

He said, the president held meetings based on the coordination of anti-discrimination student society representatives, civil society members, journalists, university teachers, intellectuals. The next outline will come in the light of that meeting. It must be remembered that all those who sat with the President sat for the good of the country. They will make thoughtful decisions.

Regarding the process of forming the interim government, Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Anik R Haque told Jago News that there is a precedent for forming an interim government in Bangladesh. It has happened several times in our country. Happened many times in Pakistan. Where the situation is, that system is there. What is in our law book (constitution) is made for the people. In 1990, however, there was no supervisory system in the constitution. A caretaker government was then established. From there or can follow it.
