The angry crowd vandalized the residence of Shahjahan Khan and Bahauddin Nasim in Madaripur and set fire to various structures belonging to them.
An angry mob vandalized the ten-storey residence of Shahjahan Khan on Monday (August 5) afternoon.
They set fire to Sarbik International Hotel owned by him, Sarbik Food Village, Shahjahan Khan supported Awami League office and Sarbik car counter, which are next to the residence. Although Madaripur Sadar Police Station is located right next to Shajahan Khan’s residence, no police was seen at the scene.
Also, the residence of Dhaka 8 Constituency Member of Parliament and Central Joint General Secretary of Awami League Bahauddin Nasim and his family owned hotel were vandalized and set on fire.
Around the ground, it is seen that the angry crowd is vandalizing the 10-storey residence of Shahjahan Khan with the national flag tied on their heads and sticks in their hands. At that time, they threw a large amount of bricks and bricks and broke the glass of the building. At four o’clock, thousands of people joined. They simultaneously set fire to Sarbik International Hotel, Sarbik Food Village, Sarbik Hair Cut Salon building, Shahjahan Khan supported Awami League office, Sarbik car counter building. At this time, flames spread around. Thousands of students, male and female, demonstrated in front of his residence. Although Madaripur Sadar police station is at a very short distance, none of the law and order forces were seen at that time.
Meanwhile, the residence of district youth women’s league president Farzana Nazneen and Chhatra League leader Noble Bepari’s motorcycle showroom and house were burnt. At that time, the house of a Jubo League leader was vandalized and the newly constructed Freedom Fighters Museum at Old Court Square was also vandalized and set on fire. Many protesters looted ceiling fans, computers and other important goods.
A few army personnel stationed at Madaripur Government College were seen making hand-mic announcements to pacify the angry crowd. At that time, the angry crowd attacked the journalists when they tried to make a video.
Apart from this, party office of Shibchar Upazila Awami League, Shibchar Municipal Auditorium, Freedom Sculpture, Shibchar Press Club, Shibchar Upazila Parishad Building, Shibchar Press Club President and General Secretary’s house were vandalized.
Madaripur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) AHM Salauddin tried to contact him on the phone but he did not receive the call.
