At least 1.6 billion people around the world are currently using Virtual Private Networks or VPNs. This is about 31 percent of the total number of Internet users worldwide.

According to the American magazine Forbes, the number of VPN users around the world is increasing rapidly. By 2030, the size of this industry is expected to reach 10,131 billion US dollars.

Nowadays, VPN is used more at personal level than at business level. Users are increasingly using VPNs mainly to increase personal security and access various streaming services and content that are restricted to certain regions.

VPNs are more commonly used on desktop or laptop computers. However, mobile users are not far behind.

Middle Eastern countries are the fastest growing number of VPN users in the world.

Most of the users are opting for free VPNs instead of spending money. However, there are serious security risks in such VPNs, experts said.
