University students and job aspirants boycotted class-exams to demand quota reforms in government jobs. Apart from this, the teachers are observing a complete strike for two consecutive weeks demanding the cancellation of the universal pension guarantee scheme. There is unrest in the country on these two issues. People are suffering. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina held a press conference at Ganabhaban on Sunday (July 14) about her visit to China. The countrymen including the agitators were waiting to hear the position of the head of government on the two issues discussed in the press conference. However, from there, the issue of quota reform and university teachers’ movement has come up in the voice of the Prime Minister.

Prime Minister’s ‘anger’ with quota opponents

The Prime Minister has again clarified that the government has nothing to do with the quota reform movement. At the same time, he expressed his anger towards the agitators for making the people suffer by blocking the road. Besides, Sheikh Hasina also commented that the negative talk about the liberation war and the heroic freedom fighters and their families is not to be tolerated. He said, “They did a movement once in 2018. It is not a movement, it is violence. Vandalism, arson. Then I got bored and said ok, dropped everything. I then said that I dropped the quota and see what happens. You can see that now, what is the situation?’

Grandchildren of freedom fighters will not get quota benefits in government jobs, so will Razakar’s grandchildren get quota benefits? The Prime Minister also raised such a question. He said, ‘Why is there so much anger against the great liberation war and brave freedom fighters? Freedom fighter’s grandchildren will not get quota, then Razakar’s grandchildren will get quota? We cannot give that. He also said, ‘Who gave them the right to speak against brave freedom fighters? Freedom fighters have fought their lives to liberate the country, their families have suffered due to this. How dare they speak against them now? They don’t like the liberation war now. Then they have to go to Pakistan.

How does the government run, how does the judiciary run even though the agitators study in the university; Sheikh Hasina expressed anger that she had no idea about it. He said, ‘We canceled the quota anyway. Now when it went to court. Then we have nothing to do about it. The Prime Minister said, “Those who are now agitating again, they do not obey the law and court.” They do not know what the constitution is. There is no knowledge of how the government is running. Yes, studying is doing, may be doing good results. But they should also know and learn about running the state.
