The anti-discrimination student movement will hold demonstrations and rallies in all campuses of the country to protest the attack on the Bengali blockade across the country with a one-sided demand to end the quota discrimination. The protesting students will hold this program at 4:30 pm on Friday (12 July).

This program was announced from the briefing of the platform before the blockade was lifted from Shahbag intersection on Thursday (July 11) around 9:30 pm.

Sargis Alam, Coordinator of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, said that the High Court’s declaration of invalidity means that there are flaws in it. It may again be declared illegal. Quota should be reformed in all grades in government jobs. Other grades employ more people than 1st and 2nd grades. There should be rational quota only for the disabled and hill tribes. A logical reform of the quota should banish this problem forever.

Hasnat Abdullah, coordinator of the movement, said that the overzealous policemen who attacked the protesters should be brought to justice. Besides, those involved in attacks on media persons should also be brought under justice.

Another coordinator, Nahid Islam, said that the quota is a matter of government policy. I want a final solution to this problem. The movement has nothing to do with the High Court. The government is pushing their work to the courts. He also called for an emergency session to pass the quota law in the parliament. He said that the movement will continue until this law is passed.

It is to be noted that on Thursday (July 11), students broke the barricade and protested in Shahbagh demanding quota reform. Although there was no clash between the students and the police, there was tension. Despite the police’s preparations, the law and order forces did not take any action. However, outside the capital there was a clash between students and the police over the quota reform movement.

The students were stopped by the police when they took a position on the roads and highways to demand quota reform. A few students were injured in tear-shell pelting and lathi-charge in Comilla. In Chittagong-Sylhet also there was a clash between protesters and the police. Ignoring the obstacles, the students continued the movement.
