Kushtia Medical College and Hospital was established in 2011 with the aim of providing complete health care to the people of Kushtia and its surrounding areas. Without building the necessary infrastructure, education and healthcare activities were started temporarily centered around the Kushtia Mats Bhavan and the 250-bed Sadar Hospital. Ever since the construction of Kushtia Medical College and Hospital project started, thousands of irregularities and corruption have taken place. Even after budgeting about 1100 crores in stages, various irregularities are seen in the transfer of colleges and hospitals. Even after the inauguration of the Pradhan Mantri Hospital on 15 November 2023, the concerned authorities have not started the operation of the full-fledged hospital. The 3rd year to 5th year students of the medical college have to go to Sadar Hospital which is about three and a half kilometers away for clinical classes. Due to lack of adequate transportation facilities, poor condition of Sadar Hospital, lack of adequate equipment, the students have to suffer a lot. Despite repeatedly telling the authorities, the issues have not been resolved. In this context, the students of the medical college conducted a human bond program by distributing memorial scripts in the college and hospital premises. The students present in the human chain demanded the opening of the hospital as soon as possible. Abdullah Al Mamun of the 2019-20 session of the medical department said, “We will be forced to go on a hard strike if the full-fledged hospital is not opened within the next 1 month.” Khalid Hossain of the session 2021-22 said, “The concerned authorities should accept the logical demands of the students and start the health care of the hospital as soon as possible.” Shahadat Hossain, a student of 2021-22 session, said, “Even after 1 century of establishment, the patients and medical students of this region are suffering due to the irresponsibility of the concerned authorities, we want a quick solution to this problem.” After the human chain, the students presented the memorandum to the project director, hospital director, principal.
