The police recovered the floating body of Afaz Uddin (58), a disabled old man, from the pond after 1 day of his disappearance in Kaliganj of Lamnirhat. His body was recovered from a pond in Gorol village of the upazila on Saturday morning.

Afaz Uddin is the son of deceased Abu Uddin of Gorol village. Kaliganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Imtiaz Kabir confirmed his death.

Police and locals said that one of Afaz Uddin’s hands is immobile. Last Friday afternoon, he went to the pond next to his house to find a goat he had kept and disappeared. Locals informed the police after seeing his body floating in the pond on Saturday morning the day after the incident.

The police recovered the body and prepared a report. The body was handed over as there was no complaint from the family. Locals believe that he may have drowned after slipping in the pond.

In this regard, Kaliganj police station OC Imtiaz Kabir said, “No complaint has been made to the police station by the family.” The body has been handed over to the family members.
