The abandoned fun pond adjacent to Bashundhara Mosque at Alorupa intersection in Lalmonirhat has turned into a polluted pond due to careless neglect and dumping of garbage.  Due to which the water becomes polluted and becomes one of the causes of environmental pollution.

On the ground, it was seen that animals are being slaughtered in an unsanitary and unsanitary environment and blood, guts and waste are being dumped into the water of the pond.  Apart from this, the pipeline of the homestead toilet has been connected to the pond.

On the other hand, in one corner of the pond, about 10 feet of space is filled with weeds.  The smell is coming from the pond water due to rain.  And some families in that area are living a very difficult life due to the rotten smell of Kachuripana.

Meanwhile, the meat traders at Alorupa Mor are constantly slaughtering cows and all the cow waste

He threw it into the pond.  Residents of the area complain that even cow skin is being washed in the pond and polluting the water.  They also said that the water of one such pond in the city is getting polluted day by day.   Due to which we are not able to stay at home and we are not afraid even of our little children, we don’t know when they will get sick from this rotten stench.

The pond looks like a grassy field from a distance;  There is no way to understand it is a pond.  If you get close, you will smell the rotten smell of drinking alcohol.  This traditional pond in an area of about 1 acre is now completely filled with debris.  And because of littering and dumping of slaughtered cows, it has become unfit to live there.  The water of that pond has taken on the color of tar.  The living families and the conscious community feel disgusted to walk by the pond.

Some people from the area, who did not wish to be named, said that dumping waste in rivers and ponds is prohibited and punishable under the Environment Act.  But the administration is not taking any action despite dumping garbage, animal waste and household toilet waste in the pond adjacent to Bashundhara Mosque.

Alhaj Jabed Ali, a retired army officer living in the area, said, “This pond is located behind my house.  I and my housemates are suffering due to constant stench coming from the pond.  If it rains a little, the rotten smell comes from the pond and we can get sick anytime.

So I am drawing the attention of the administration to take immediate action on this pond.  Otherwise some of the families we live in will get sick anytime due to the stench of the rotten water of this pond.

In this regard, when speaking to the mayor of Lalmonirhat municipality, Rezaul Karim Swapan, he said that no one has complained to us yet.  But as soon as we know about the matter, we will take action with our clean staff very soon.
