In the light of the theme “I will restore land, prevent desertification and achieve drought tolerance”, a discussion meeting was held under the chairmanship of Upazila Agriculture Officer Arju Akhtar in the Galachipa Upazila Auditorium Hall room of Patuakhali on the occasion of celebration of World Environment Day 2024. Md. Jahangir Alam, Engineer of Galachipa Upazila of Local Government Engineering Directorate (LGED) was the chief guest.

Before this, around ten o’clock in the morning, with the participation of various schools, madrassas, scout members and various people, a colorful rally was taken out from Upazila Chattar and circled the main main road of the city.

According to international data, World Environment Day (abbreviated as WED) is celebrated on June 5 every year to raise environmental awareness through political and non-political activities worldwide. The United Nations Conference on the Human Environment started on this day. This conference was held from 5 to 16 June 1972. This conference was launched by the United Nations General Assembly that year. Since then this day is celebrated every year. According to information sources, the day was celebrated for the first time in 1974 AD. Every year the day is celebrated in a different city with a different theme. In 2023, the day will be celebrated around the world with the theme ‘Let’s join in solving plastic pollution’ to end plastic pollution. In the Northern Hemisphere, the day is celebrated in spring, and in the Southern Hemisphere, the day is celebrated in autumn. The purpose of World Environment Day is to take necessary steps so that people can live in a beautiful environment in harmony with all other living beings on this earth by maintaining the natural balance properly.

In the meeting, calling to stop plastic-pollution across the country, various discussions were held to solve plastic pollution, and more trees were suggested to be planted. Md.
