Hatibandha Upazila of Lalmonirhat, mentally unstable mother and daughter died due to poisoning. The incident took place at Sonardighi area of ​​Velaguri union of the upazila on Saturday morning. Hatibandha police station recovered the bodies of mother and daughter on the same day evening.
The deceased are Rozina Begum (40), wife of Akbar Ali of Sonardighi area of ​​Velaguri union of the upazila and her 4-month-old daughter Jannatul Ferdausi.
Police and locals said that Rozina Begum, the mother of four daughters, became mentally disturbed. His family was also undergoing treatment for mental illness for some time. On Saturday morning, he drank the pesticide of the cropland kept at home in secret and made his younger daughter Jannatul Ferdausi drink it. When they fell ill after some time, the family members admitted them to Hatibandha Upazila Health Complex.
When the treatment deteriorated there, the mother and daughter were transferred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for better treatment. On the way there, first the mother and later the daughter died in the evening. On receiving information, Hatibandha police station recovered the body from their house in the evening.
Hatibandha Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saiful Islam said that the mother’s case will be a case of suicide as a case of untimely death (UD). A 4 month old baby cannot eat by himself. He was poisoned and his alleged mother herself died. The death of the child will be treated as a case of murder. The bodies of mother and daughter will be sent to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital morgue on Sunday.
