It is known that on October 29, 2023, a bloody clash took place in Mahendranagar of Lalmonirhat, centered on the hartal called by BNP-Jamaat and the peace rally of Awami League.  Many people including Sramik League leader Jahangir were injured.  Later, Jahangir died while undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital.  Three days after the incident, Aminul Islam Khan, a resident of Kazirchawra village in Harati Union of Sadar Upazila and a member of Awami League Ward No. 1 of Harati Union, a resident of Kazirchawra village of Sadar Upazila, filed a murder case against 300-400 people including 81 names at Lalmonirhat Sadar police station.
