After a long wait, Burimari Intercity Train ‘Burimari Express’ has finally started its journey on Dhaka Railway.  Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s promise to the long-neglected elderly people has also been fulfilled.
On Tuesday (March 12) afternoon, the train was officially inaugurated by 3 members of parliament from 3 parliamentary constituencies of Lalmonirhat district.  Although inaugurated, the train is at Burimari railway station.  It will leave Burimari at 6:30 PM and leave for Dhaka as it is night time.  The much anticipated Burimari Express train will run on the first day with 430 passengers out of 638 seats.  As the route is long, the train will run regularly from Lalmonirhat station for the time being.  In that case there is a Shurtle train arrangement for the passengers of Burimari land port.  The people of the area are aggrieved by cutting off Aditmari station and stopping the journey at Barakhata union label station, even though every upazila of the district is supposed to stop the journey.
According to railway sources, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visited Dahgram-Angorpota and Tinbigha corridors of Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat on October 19, 2011.  At that time he promised to start an inter-city train from Burimari directly to the capital Dhaka.  Former Railway Minister Mujibul Haque visited Lalmonirhat Burimari Railway on June 16, 2018 to verify the feasibility of running the train.  At that time, he announced the speedy implementation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s promise.  Later on November 12, 2021, former railway minister Nurul Islam Sujan visited Lalmonirhat station.  At that time, he promised to start intercity train on Burimari-Dhaka route soon.  The people of Lalmonirhat were very disappointed as the demands of the district residents were not fulfilled even after long promises.
Finally, on November 19 last year, 14 coaches for the Burimari Express train reached Lalmonirhat station.  Then on the afternoon of December 6, the inter-city Burimari Express left for Gaibandha from Lalmonirhat railway station on a trial basis.  After that, the date of inauguration of ‘Burimari Express’ train was fixed on November 30 last year.  It was later changed to December 6.  This day was also changed to December 16.  The train was not inaugurated that day either.  The date was later rescheduled to January 1 of the new year.  After that the date of 18th February was fixed but the train was not inaugurated.  Finally on Tuesday (12th March) the railway department decided to start the sale of tickets.  When the train starts, the picture of communication from Burimari to Dhaka will change.  This will introduce a new horizon in the communication of the people of this region including Lalmonirhat.
On Saturday (March 9), Deputy Director (TT) of Traffic Transportation Branch of Bangladesh Railway.  An instruction letter signed by Shaukat Jamil Mohsi informed about the inauguration of the train.  Dhaka to Burimari (809) Burimari Express will be closed on Monday and Burimari to Dhaka Burimari Express (810) will be closed on Tuesday.  The 14 coach train will have total seats of 638/653.  Train rake basing and watering will be done at Lalmonirhat and cleaning will be done at Burimari.
Burimari Express Train was launched to facilitate Dhaka’s communication with Burimari land port and Lalmonirhat district.  Although the name is Burimari, the journey will be from Lalmonirhat.  In that case, the people of the remaining 4 upazilas remain deprived.  On the other hand, passengers of Rangpur, Gaibandha, Bogra and Natore districts are getting the main benefits of the train.  Even if you travel from Lalmonirhat, there is no travel break in the district, while there are travel breaks at 7 places in Bogra Gaibandha, Rangpur and Natore.  The people of Lalmonirhat are angry rather than happy.
