Dhaka, 31 January 2024:
Foreign Minister and Awami League joint general secretary. Hasan Mahmud said, ‘The three main elements of BNP’s politics are terrorism-murder, fraud and anti-national propaganda.’
He said this while speaking as the chief guest at the discussion, milad and distribution of winter clothes organized by Dhaka Metropolitan South Awami League to commemorate the ‘Lalbagh 7 murders in 1994’ on Wednesday afternoon. Dhaka Metropolitan South Awami League President Bir Muktijoddha Abu Ahmed Mannafi presided over and general secretary Humayun Kabir moderated Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Barrister Fazle Noor Tapas made a special guest speech at the meeting.
Dr. Hasan said, ‘Actually, BNP-Jamaat is a gang of murderers. They do the politics of killing. Mirza Fakhrul Sahib, Rizvi Sahib, who are the big leaders of BNP today, all used to join other parties before BNP lost power. Ziaur Rahman founded BNP standing on dead bodies. So they could not get out of the politics of murder and terror. The way the BNP carried out arson in 2013, 14, 15, the way it hacked a policeman to death in the name of a rally on October 28, it also beats medieval barbarism. In imitation of the Israeli forces, they attacked the police hospital and burnt 19 vehicles of the hospital, including the ICU ambulance. The attack on the residence of the Chief Justice has never happened in the history of the country.
Referring to the fact that the BNP had also created a fake adviser to the US President while committing fraud, the foreign minister said, first it was seen that he could not speak anything but English, then it was seen that he was ‘mumbling Bengali’. You remember that the BNP forged the signatures of Congressmen and released a fake audio claiming to have spoken to Indian Minister Amit Shah.
The minister said that the BNP did not participate in the election knowing that it was inundated and tried many times to question the election but could not. Wrote letters to foreigners not to legitimize the government for not validating this election. But all countries in the world have expressed their intention to work with the newly elected government. Many heads of state, heads of government have sent congratulatory messages to Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 80 diplomats including the ambassadors of the United States, United Kingdom, EU, France, Germany, China, India, Russia were present to listen to the President’s speech in the first session of the 12th National Parliament.
At the beginning of his speech on this day, the minister sought forgiveness for the departed souls of Shaheed Shah Alam, Hafiz Uddin, Delwar Hossain, Ansarullah Gazi, Anwar Hossain Anu, Nazrul Islam and Mohammad Yunus on January 31, 1994. He said, in 1994, we won the city corporation elections in Dhaka and Chittagong with huge votes. They could not accept it. The massacre took place the day after the election. But the leaders and activists of Awami League were not suppressed after that but stood against this murderous circle. In 1996, after 21 years on the journey of victory, Prime Minister Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina took oath as the first Prime Minister on June 23, 1996.
‘Corruption within TIB needs to be probed’
Regarding the position of the country in the corruption index, Foreign Minister Hasan said, ‘There was a good election in the country and the government was established through that election. The whole world congratulated the government. All the countries of the world have expressed their intention to work with the new government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. To cut it short, something has to be said, Bangladesh has dropped two steps in Transparency International’s corruption index. Now it is necessary to examine whether there is any corruption within the TIB. In this way, the government cannot be made short by a one-sided report.’
There are some organizations in Bangladesh who work as sportsmen, he said, ‘They work in the same way as they get funds from where they give prescriptions. But we want such an organization to exist. We think it is good to have such institutions for civil society organizations to highlight the mistakes of the government. But when that institution becomes one-eyed, motivated by the BNP political leaders, Rizvi Ahmed’s words and the TIB’s words coincide when one understands, “Dal mein kuch kala hai”.’
