Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has ordered a master plan for land use in each upazila.

He gave this order at the cabinet meeting held at the Prime Minister’s office on Monday. At the end of the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Md. Mahbub Hossain said this in a press briefing.

Mahbub Hossain said, instructions have come from the Prime Minister, in terms of land use, we should have a master plan in every upazila. It has been informed from the local government department that they have taken initiative in this regard and they have already started working for this purpose.

He said that the Prime Minister said that it should be completed in the shortest possible time. What will happen if it does is that, now that development is taking place, land use will also be very rational. He (Prime Minister) asked to keep an eye on the fact that the land should not be used for houses, industries or in any other way. Once this is done, there will be an order in the matter of land.

The cabinet secretary said that upazila based land use master plan should be done. The local government department will work on this from now on.

Mahbub Hossain said that in the meeting, the cabinet has approved the draft of the ‘Personal Data Protection Act, 2023’ with the provision of forming a board on personal data protection.
He said, ‘Information is now the biggest resource. In this digital era, the use of information is considered to be the most strategic resource. Information is now the most necessary tool. In that case, an institution called Bangladesh Data Protection Board will be created to ensure that the data usage management or the privacy, individuality and consent required of a person in the case of data usage. That Board will look after these matters.”The Data Protection Board will have a Chairman and four members. This board will be governed like other statutory bodies.

He said, ‘There will be some rules and regulations to be followed for those who will collect the data. The Board shall make rules and shall collect all information and distribute the information in light of those rules. Those who will collect and process the data must be registered with the Board. They can do these things on the basis of registration. Keeping that provision, this law is being made.

The Cabinet Secretary said that the draft of ‘Jayita Foundation Act, 2023’ was also approved in principle in the meeting.
