Chairman of 41 upazilas and 2 district councils resigned to participate in the 12th national parliament elections. Besides, one member of Zilla Parishad has also left the post. They have submitted their resignations to the local government department secretary.
Based on the application, the Ministry of Local Government is accepting their resignations and declaring the posts vacant. It is also known that they have collected the signatures of 1 percent of the voters of their constituencies to become independent candidates.

Mohaddes Hossain, Kishoreganj Kamirganj Md. Nasirul Islam Khan, Rupganj, Narayanganj. Shahjahan Bhuiyan, Rajbari Sadar Md. Imdadul Haque Biswas, Mushfiqur Rahman Khan of Singair in Manikganj, Mohiuddin Ahmed of Sirajdikhan in Munshiganj and Manohardir of Narsingdi. Saiful Islam Khan Biru.
Syed Nazrul Islam of Shibganj in Chapainawabganj in Rajshahi Division, the freedom fighter of Ullapara in Sirajganj. Shafiqul Islam and Belkuchi Md. Nurul Islam (Sajedul), Mojibur Rahman Majnu and Adamdighir of Sherpur in Bogra. Sirajul Islam Khan Raju and Pabna Chatmohar Md. Abdul Hamid has resigned from the post of Chairman of Upazila Parishad.
Jannatul Ferdous, chairman of Durgapur upazila of Netrakona district in Mymensingh division, Md. Muktagachar of Mymensingh. Abdul Hai Akand and Mahmud Hasan Sumon of Ishwarganj, ADM Shahidul Islam of Srivardi in Sherpur and SM Abdullahel Warez Naim of Jhenigati have resigned.
Chairman Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mahmud of Shalla Upazila of Sunamganj in Sylhet Division and AKM Safi Ahmad (Salman) of Kulaura of Moulvibazar have resigned.
11 upazila chairman resigned in Chittagong division. They are SM Al Mamun of Sitakunda of Chittagong district, Abdul Motaleb of Satkania, Motaherul Islam Chowdhury of Patia and Mohammad Abdul Jabbar Chowdhury of Chandnaish; Mohammad Zahidul Islam of Faridganj of Chandpur and Gazi Mainuddin of Hajiganj, Debidwar of Comilla. Abul Kalam Azad and Abdus Chobhan Bhuiyan of Chauddagram, Mohammad Sharif Badsha and Ramur Sohel Sarwar Kajal of Maheshkhali in Cox’s Bazar and Firozur Rahman of Brahmanbaria Sadar.
Khulna Division of Meherpur Sadar. Yarul Islam, Satkhira sadar Md. Asaduzzaman Babu and SM Ataul Haque of Shyamnagar and Md. Mirpur of Kushtia. Kamarul Arefin has resigned from Upazila Upazila Parishad.
Chairman of Mithapukur upazila of Rangpur district in Rangpur division. Zakir Hossain Sarkar, Syedpur, Nilphamari. Mokhchedul Momin, Gaibandha Sadre Shah Sarwar Kabir has left the post of Upazila Parishad.
Bakerganj upazila parishad chairman of Barisal division Mohammad Shamsul Alam has also written his name in the resignation list.
Besides, Chairman of Kurigram and Lalmonirhat District Council. Zafar Ali and Md. Matiar Rahman has resigned. Member of Jessore District Council. Azizul Islam also left the post.
Incidentally, November 30 is the last day to submit nomination papers as per the schedule announced by the Election Commission for the 24th poll. Two more days are left to submit nominations. Hence the number of resignations is likely to increase further.
