A total of 235 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) platoons and 460 Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) patrol teams have been deployed across Bangladesh to maintain law and order during the new 48-hour hartal called by the BNP, Jamaat, and like-minded opposition parties.

Shariful Islam, public relations officer (PRO) at BGB Headquarters, confirmed the development on Sunday morning.

On the first day of the 48-hour hartal, 28 BGB platoons are deployed in Dhaka and adjoining districts to avoid any untoward incident.

The remaining 207 platoons of the border force have been deployed across the country.

In addition, a total of 460 patrol teams of the RAB have been deployed in Dhaka and elsewhere in the country.

Imran Khan, assistant superintendent of police at the RAB headquarters (Media Wing), confirmed the development.

On the first day of the 48-hour hartal, a total of 160 RAB teams have been deployed in Dhaka to avoid any untoward incident, he said.

The remaining 300 RAB patrol teams were deployed across the country along with other forces, the RAB official said.

Members of the elite force have been performing their duties since the opposition parties began observing blockade and hartal at the end of last month.

BNP, Jamaat and like-minded opposition parties called a 48-hour countrywide hartal after the general election schedule was announced by the Election Commission (EC).

At least nine vehicles including an intercity train were torched by miscreants from last night till this morning, ahead of the hartal.
