Akhaura-Agartala dual gauge railway train, inaugurated on 1st November

For the first time, a Bangladeshi train went to Agartala in India by taking a train on the Akhaura-Agartala dual gauge railway. On Monday (October 30) at around 12:30 PM, a trial train with 6 staff of Bangladesh Railways from the newly constructed Gangasagar Railway Station in Bangladesh with 5 carriages left from Bangladesh Gangasagar on an experimental (as a trial train) to Agartala Nishchintpur Railway Station in India. Earlier, the first trial run or train ran on the much-desired Akhaura-Agartala dual gauge railway on September 14 last month of this year.

The project director Abu Zafar Mia said that the prime minister of the two countries will inaugurate the railway on Wednesday, November 1, as the experimental train movement was successful. After the inauguration, goods trains will be run first and then passenger trains will also run on this route. For the first time, the train driver Md. was moved by the emotion of going to India’s Agartala with the train of Bangladesh. Mafuzur Rahman said, I am entering Agartala with 6 of our staff for the first time as a driver. Akhaura-Agartala dual gauge railway project director of the Bangladesh section. Abu Zafar Mia said, now the railway is ready for inauguration. The Megha project is scheduled to be inaugurated by the Prime Ministers of the two countries. Sarat Sharma, country manager of Texmeco Rail and Engineering Limited, said that the work on the project, customs and immigration building is nearing completion. Railways are fully prepared for inauguration. Trains can run at a speed of 79 km on this railway. Abdur Razzak, Immigration Incharge of Akhaura Gangasagar Railway Station said, Today is my first working day. As the first working day, I thank the honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for giving me the responsibility here. Worked immigration for first 6 staff today.

They were the first to immigrate to this new Gangasagar immigration. Project officials said that in July 2018, the Indian contractor Texmeco Rail and Engineering Limited started the construction of the Akhaura-Agartala railway. The Bangladesh part of the 12.24 km long railway is 6.78 km. It took more than five years to complete this one-and-a-half-year project due to various crises including the Corona epidemic.
