World Egg Day was celebrated in Gazipur with the motto “Eggs are nutrition, eggs are energy, eggs are freedom from diseases”. On Friday morning (October 13), a procession and discussion meeting was held on the occasion organized by Gazipur District Animal Resources Directorate.
On this occasion, a procession started from the office premises of the District Animal Husbandry Directorate and ended at the same place after circling various roads. Later, the discussion meeting held in the room of the District Livestock Officer was presided over by – Acting District Livestock Officer Dr. Helal Ahmed.
Gazipur District Veterinary Surgeon Dr. Mohammad Mokhleshur Rahman, Kaliganj Upazila Livestock Officer Dr. Mohammad Yusuf Habib, Kapasia Upazila Livestock Officer Dr. Rasheduzzaman, Bangladesh Poultry Industries Association Central Publicity Secretary Md. Tofazzal Hossain, Gazipur District Poultry Association Convener Basir Ahmed Basir, Dr. Company representative Ashraf Hossain, farmer Saiful Islam, farmer MA Matin etc.
Gazipur Sadar Upazila Veterinary Surgeon Dr. Md. Mizanur Rahman presented and moderated the main article. At the beginning of the program, Azhar Hossain recited the Holy Quran, Additional District Livestock Officer Lipi Rani Basak read the Gita. People from different professions were present.
Dr. Helal Ahmed, District Livestock Officer in charge said, “Eggs contain nutrition, eggs contain energy, eggs contain disease prevention” and World Egg Day is being celebrated today. Eggs are an amazing food full of nutrients. The day is celebrated to popularize eggs to combat nutritional deficiencies around the world.
Eggs are a delicious and readily available food. This small food, the size of the palm of the hand, contains 13 essential nutrients for our body. Eggs are one of the most affordable animal proteins. Eggs are called ‘poor man’s protein’. Again, its place is at the top among sustainable animal proteins.
He said about the nutritional value of eggs, eggs are globally recognized for their multi-purpose properties. Eggs contain nutrients that are typically found in very few other foods. Eggs are therefore an excellent food for a balanced diet. It is capable of meeting the essential nutritional needs of expectant mothers, children, adolescents and the elderly. Eggs contain 9 types of amino acids, which are able to meet all the protein needs of the body. Egg protein helps build muscle, curb hunger, and boost immunity. Deficiencies of iron and vitamins A, B6, B12, D are commonly seen around the world. These nutrients are present in eggs. This nutritional quality of eggs increases our immunity naturally. Causes physical growth. Helps in baby’s brain development. Eggs are a rich source of selenium. It contains essential minerals like zinc, iron and copper. They are especially known to be a source of choline, which helps brain development and sharpens memory.
He also said that currently the price of 1 Benson cigarette is 18 taka, 1 bottle of half liter water is 20 taka and the price of 1 egg is 12/13 taka. Cigarettes are bad for us. Although water is important, compared to the nutritional value of eggs, eggs are a much more readily available nutrient that is essential for human health. So the habit of eating eggs should be increased every day. He requested the leaders of farmers and poultry associations to take steps to produce safe eggs and meat free of antibiotics.
On Sunday (October 15) on the occasion of Egg Day, 1 to 1500 eggs will be distributed to orphans free of cost in 2/3 orphanages and madrasas of Gazipur Sadar.
