2 fishermen were shot dead by pirates in the Meghna River for seizing fishing vessels. At that time, 5 people were injured in the shooting of the pirates. On Friday afternoon, residents of the coast staged a human chain and protested at Manju Chairman Bazar of Subarnachar Upazila demanding the arrest and execution of members of the pirates.

Last Wednesday evening in the Sandwip section west of Swarnadwip of the Meghna River, the pirates fired at the fishermen’s fishing trawler on the demand of local residents. Abdur Rahman (40), son of Nashir Ahmad of East Charbata Union of Subarnachar Upazila of Noakhali, and Delwar Hossain Raju (15), son of Rezaul Haque of the same village, were killed by bandits. Noakhali Superintendent of Police Shahidul Islam Sandwip Upazila Health Officer Manas Biswas confirmed the death of two fishermen. , last Wednesday at around 12:00 pm Sandwip Coast Guard members took the bodies of 2 prisoners to the hospital. At that time, 2-3 injured fishermen were released with first aid. The dead bodies of the 2 jailers were buried in their family graveyard on Thursday night. The fishermen who were shot are Zillur Rahman (32) and Noor Alam Mia (35). Among them, Zillur is the son of Bhulu Majhi of Charbata Union East Charbata Union of Subarnachar Upazila of Zillur and Mia is the son of Fazlul Haque of Chartorab Ali Village of Mohammadpur Union of the same Upazila. The seriously injured fishermen are Jewel (26), Abdur Rahman (22), Hossain (40), Ismail (40). Aggrieved fishermen and coastal residents complained that Main Uddin Majhi and Oli Majhi of Subarnachar Upazila have been fishing from Sandeep area west of Swarnadwip of Meghna River for a long time. Kefayet Bahini has been trying to seize this fishing port of Meghna river since some days ago. On Wednesday evening, Kefayet forces cut the fishermen’s nets to seize the cargo. On receiving the news, the affected fishermen went there with two fishing trawlers. At one stage, pirates Kefayet Force members Altaf, Nooruddin and Jewel Sandeep with the help of Coast Guard Station Contingent Commander Mohiuddin attacked two fishing trawlers in two rounds and looted goods worth crores of rupees including fish, nets and trawlers. At one point when the pirates opened fire, 2 fishermen were shot and 8 people were injured. Two of the injured were rescued and admitted to the 250-bed Noakhali General Hospital.
At that time, pirates kidnapped 5 fishermen. The Coast Guard has identified the 2 fishermen who were killed as pirates. When the accused contacted Kefayet, Kefayet Ulyah said on the phone that he has been staying in a residential hotel in Chittagong for special work since September 23. There are hotel registers and CCTV cameras recording his whereabouts. He claims that he is not involved in this incident in any way, he said that some print and electronic media have spread false and fabricated news about me, I strongly condemn and protest.
