A public awareness meeting on Right to Information Act 2009 was held in Patuakhali jointly organized by Information Commission and District Administration. On Tuesday (September 19) at 2:30 PM (2:30 PM) District Arts Academy Auditorium held a special public awareness meeting on Right to Information Act 2009 at the district level. Chief Information Commissioner of Bangladesh Information Commission, Dr. Abdul Malek, Hon’ble Chief Information Commissioner, Information Commission Bangladesh, was present as the chief guest in the said public information meeting. Patuakhali District Commissioner Md Noor Qutubul Alam presided over the meeting. Dr. Muhammad Abdul Hakeem Director (Administration) Information Commission Bangladesh spoke as a special guest, also present were Superintendent of Police BPM.PPM Bar Md. Saidul Islam, Patuakhali Zilla Parishad Chairman Advocate Md. Hafizur Rahman Hafiz and Municipal Mayor Md. Mohiuddin Ahmed, Brave freedom fighter Shahjahan Miah, upazila chairman Md. Sarwar Sipais and other dignitaries were present on the stage. The Chief Information Commissioner said there are 1998 laws in the constitution of Bangladesh. Out of which the state governs the people through the 1997 law and only one law governs the state through the Right to Information Act. This law will play an important role in ensuring transparency and accountability of the activities of government and private institutions and in controlling corruption. He also said that the people own the state. In order to raise awareness about the Right to Information Act, the government has taken the initiative of this notification meeting at all district and upazila levels across the country. This public information meeting was held in continuation of that. Officials of various departments of upazila administration, heads of educational institutions, journalists, UP secretaries and public representatives were also present.
