In the financial year 2022-23, the total loss of Bangladesh Electricity Development Board, Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board, Dhaka Electric Supply Company Limited and Dhaka Power Distribution Company is 11 thousand 614 crore 69 lakh taka. State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid gave this information in response to a written question by Member of Parliament Habibur Rahman in the National Parliament session on Tuesday (September 5). The state minister said that in the financial year 2022-23, the post-tax loss of Bangladesh Electricity Development Board is Tk 8,778.46 crore, the loss of Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board is Tk 2,563 crore, the loss of Dhaka Electric Supply Company Limited is Tk 226 crore and 69 lakh and the loss of Dhaka Power Distribution Company is Tk. The amount is 46 crore 54 lakh taka. In all, the total loss of the four companies is 11 thousand 614 crore 69 lakh taka. Referring to the reason for the loss, the Minister of State for Power said that in the fiscal year 2022-23, the cost of electricity supply per unit at the wholesale level was Tk 11.09. And sold for 5.75 taka. 5.34 rupees loss per unit. Besides, in 2023, as a result of the war in Ukraine, Russia increased the price of gas from 5.2 taka per cubic meter to 14 taka, increasing the cost of about 850 to 900 crore taka per month. Because of that, the amount of losses in the power sector has increased.
