7 coaches of the train derailed in Bankharia area near Bhawal railway station on Joydevpur-Mymensingh railway road in Gazipur. One person was killed. After this train movement on Dhaka Mymensingh railway route is stopped. Thousands of passengers suffered as several trains got stuck at various stations due to the accident. There has been a train schedule disaster.
The accident happened on Wednesday (December 13) around 4 am. The name of the deceased is Aslam Hossain (35). He was a chicken trader.
Jaidebpur Railway Stationmaster Hanif Ali said that the Dhaka-bound Mohalganj express train left Rajendrapur station from 4:30 am on Wednesday. After going some distance, 7 coaches including engine derailed.
He further said that we have heard that miscreants have cut railway lines and that accidents have happened. Joydevpur-Mymensingh rail traffic has been stopped. No casualties have been reported yet. This is being investigated. The matter has been informed to the higher authorities of the railways.
Deputy Assistant Director of Gazipur Fire Service, Abdullah Al Arefin, said that the Dhaka-bound Mohanganj Express train from Netrakona derailed while entering Bankharia area, one kilometer north of Bhawal station, along with the engine of the train. The passenger of the train, Aslam, was killed on the spot and more than half a hundred were injured.
Abdullah Al Arefin also said that the rescue team of fire service, police and district administration went to the spot and rescued the victims after receiving information about the derailment of the carriage. After the accident, the rail connection between Dhaka and Mymensingh route was stopped. Passengers suffered as several trains got stuck at various stations. After the accident, the matter was reported to the higher authorities.
Deputy Commissioner Abul Fate Mohammad Safiqul Islam said that the accident happened because the vandals cut at least 20 feet of the railway line with a cutter. One passenger was killed.
Railways has started working to restore rail communication by recovering the train engine and 7 derailed coaches.
After the rescue relief train reached the spot, railway line repair and rescue work started.
