500 farmers get incentives to increase production of Boro hybrid rice in Rajshahi

Free distribution of hybrid rice seeds among 500 marginal farmers has been inaugurated by the Poba Upazila Agricultural Extension Department of Rajshahi and in cooperation with the upazila administration.

On Wednesday (December 11) at 11 am, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Sohrab Hossain inaugurated the seed distribution program as the chief guest in the Upazila Parishad premises with Upazila Agriculture Officer Krishibid Farzana Tasnim in the chair.

Speaking as the chief guest, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Sohrab Hossain said that incentives will be given to 500 small and marginal farmers under the incentive program to increase the cultivation and production of hybrid rice in the Boro season this year. We have completed all the preparations for the distribution of these rice seeds and have started the distribution process. These rice seeds are being distributed quickly to create hybrid Boro seed beds. This will increase the cultivation of hybrid rice in the upazila. Along with this, the production of hybrid rice will increase.

In this regard, Upazila Agriculture Officer and Agriculturist Farzana Tasnim said that in the 2024-25 fiscal year, under the agricultural incentive program, two kg of hybrid Boro rice seeds are being distributed free of cost among 500 small and marginal farmers of the upazila with the aim of increasing the cultivation and production of Boro rice (hybrid). This year, high-yielding rice seeds of the Lal Teer Hybrid Tia HTM-707 and Super Hybrid SL-8H varieties are being distributed. The seedlings of this rice should be planted in the land within 21 to 25 days. With moderate application of fertilizers, irrigation and pesticides, the yield per bigha can be expected to be about 35 to 36 maunds.

He further said that in the last fiscal year 2023-24, hybrid seeds were provided free of cost to 3,500 farmers, which increased the cultivation of hybrid rice on 467 hectares of land and increased the production of rice by 2,718 tons.

Deputy Assistant Plant Protection Officer Hafizur Rahman, Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer Mukbul Hossain and Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officers of various blocks were present at the time.
