A bus carrying students of Islamic University (IU) overturned into a paddy field beside the Kushtia-Khulna Highway, injuring more than 50 students around 10:30 AM on Tuesday at the Britti-Para area in Kushtia.
According to eyewitnesses, the bus was going from Kushtia city to the campus when the driver lost control, causing it to overturn into a paddy field. More than 50 students were injured and were immediately sent to the university’s medical center and Kushtia General Hospital.
Dr. Sirajul Islam, IU Chief Medical Officer, said, “One student has been referred to Kushtia General Hospital due to serious injuries, while others are receiving primary treatment.”
Mizanur Rahman, In-Charge of the IU Security Cell, said, “We have already sent the injured students to the university medical center. Initially, we estimate that around thirty students have been injured.”
Mehedi Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of IU Police Station, said, “Primarily we assume that the accident occurred while attempting to overtake another vehicle.”
Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Transport Administrator Professor Dr. M. Ayakub Ali said, “We are at the accident site. By Allah’s grace, no student has died, but all of them have suffered injuries to some extent.”
