Thirty people were injured in the collision between MV Sundarban launch and lighter ship bound for Asha-Barisal from Dhaka. In addition, twenty people were injured in the collision between Chandradwip and Adventure Launch, which was headed to Mozu Chowdhury’s hut from Barisal. On Thursday night at approximately 12:30 pm, the accident happened with the lighter ship Sundarban 16 launch. Passengers are dropped off at a ford at Chandpur Meghna River (Eklaspur). Shibu Das, a passenger in the launch, said that there was a collision with MV Sundarban launch and lighter ship bound for Barisal from Dhaka due to thick fog. Part of the launch was torn apart and water entered through a wide crack in the bottom of the launch. However, even if there are no serious injuries, there is crying and panic among the common people.
A passenger named Suman said that the Sundarban 15 launch arrived at the scene of the accident and left for Barisal at 4:40 with some passengers on deck. But the cabin passengers boarded the Sundarban 14 launch at 8:20 am.
Meanwhile, on the same night, Asha Adventure-1 launch from Dhaka collided with MV Chandradwip local launch at Palashpur Mohammad Pur Char head. At this time, the blast from the front of the launch was twisted.
Md Milon Master of Chandradwip Launch said, on Friday morning at 6:00am, the Barisal Launch Ghat left the Ghat for Patarhat to Majuchaudhuri Hut. Within twenty minutes of that, the Adventure ran into trouble with the launch. About twenty people were injured. Two women were seriously injured. They were rescued and admitted to Sher-e Bangla Medical College. And the rest of the people left with local treatment.
Calling the launch authority’s mobile phone in this regard, the connection was found to be disconnected.
Officer-in-charge of Sadar Naval Police Station, OC A. Jalil, said that after hearing about the launch accident in the Kirtankhola river, the police were sent to the scene. But this happened due to dense fog.
