Md. Kabir Hossain Bhola districts correspondent: Bhola’s 190-km Hilsa sanctuary on the Meghna and Tetulia rivers. The government’s Fisheries Department has imposed a ban on all types of fishing, including Hilsa, in this sanctuary for two consecutive months since March 1 to increase the production of Hilsa.
Borhanuddin Upazila Fisheries Department said that to make this ban successful, a 4-day continuous operation was conducted in the Tetulia River from Tuesday, April 10 to Monday, April 14.
During the four-day continuous operation, 49 behundi nets, 3 Hafsa nets, and a large quantity of current nets were seized. The seized nets were burned and destroyed. The estimated market value of which is about 25 lakh taka.
Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Manoj Kumar Saha confirmed this matter, saying, “Our operation will continue to increase the production of Hilsa and make the ban successful.”
Present during the operation were Borhanuddin Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md. Mehedi Hasan, Senior Upazila Fisheries Officers, Manoj Kumar Saha, Mizanur Rahman, Marine Fisheries Officer, Mostafa Monowar Ali.
