 4 fishing trawlers sunk in storm in Bay of Bengal. 68 fishermen were rescued from the sunken trawlers. However, there was no trace of the trawlers. 3 trawlers got stuck in the water and sank at a depth of approximately 5 to 7 km off Kuakata at around 2 pm on Tuesday, August 1. Another trawler sank at a depth of 50 to 70 km, according to the fishermen. The rescued fishermen were released after first aid. According to Alipur fishing port sources, last Friday morning, the trawlers left the port for the purpose of fishing. They were returning from the deep sea to the Alipore fishing port on Tuesday morning after being at sea for two days due to stormy weather. Around 2 pm, the trawlers got stuck in the water at a distance of 5 to 7 km from Kuakata beach and sank due to heavy waves. At that time the fishermen of other trawlers behind them rescued the fishermen of their drowned trawler and brought them to the Alipore Fishery Landing Centre. Fishermen are unable to survive in the stormy sea. 4 trawlers sunk due to storm. However, the sailors were rescued and brought to a safe haven. After returning from the sea, most of the trawlers have now taken shelter in various harbors including the Alipur-Mahipur fish landing centre.
